SHAMSUR RAHMAN FARUQI is Urdu's finest literary critic today with some twenty books to his credit, including a major four-volume study of the poet Mir. He is currently working on the second volume of his monumental study of the Urdu dastan. 2006 saw the publication of his voluminous (830 pp.) novel Kai Chand the Sar-e Asmaan.
