MICHAEL (JAUCH) NIJHAWAN received his M. Phil. from the University of Heidelberg in 1997. His thesis is entitledThe Partition of India (1947) as Traumatic Event: The Short Stories of Sa'adat Hasan Manto, Intizar Husain and Rajinder Singh Bedi fromthe Viewpoint of Ethnography of Social Suffering. He is currently Associate Professor, Department of Anthropology at the South Asia Institute, Heidelberg University.
