SA‘ADAT HASAN MANTO (1912-1955), of "Toba Tekh Singh" fame, is regarded as the Subcontinent’s pre-eminent modern Urdu short fiction writer of stark realities. A brilliant and prolific innovator, his work has been widely translated, most recently into French by Alain Desoulieres.
